removing a word from the DEFAULT LIST in spell check
I am not asking how to remove a word from persdict.dat. I want to remove a word from the stock word database (for example, the lowercase word "i"). How can I accomplish this?

How to remove the lowercase word "i" from persdict.dat
Don't think you can. The Roman Numeral i is before ii in an outline.
The following extension might make up for it though, by checking grammar as well as spelling. The Firefox spelling dictionary works a lot better than the spelling checker in the extension and less ambiguous, so use them both.
- "After the Deadline - Spell and Grammar Checker extension (86 KB), see options good to go after check-marking wanted grammar rules. Activated by "F4" (default PFkey).
- (my notes can be found here).
Thank you for answering that example of my question, as I did not consider the outline application of "i". I may be able to try your suggestion in the future, since: After the Deadline - Spell and Grammar Checker 1.50 - Not available for Firefox 10.0a2
In your about:config add these and set them to all to false
- extensions.checkCompatibility.10.0
- extensions.checkCompatibility.10.0a
- extensions.checkCompatibility.11.0
- extensions.checkCompatibility.11.0a
Reference:
Looks to me like it works with 10.0a2 (someone else's test)
If you want to test extensions, and turn them on or off depending on your own results you can install the "Add-on Compatibility Reporter"
- After the Deadline - Spell and Grammar Checker :: Add-ons for Firefox
- Add-on Compatibility Reporter :: Add-ons for Firefox
- Is It Compatible? :: Add-ons for Firefox (suggest only enabling when you need it)
