my group tabs are lost once I close Firefox. According to the NY times article of April 21 2011, these tabs are supposed to stay on your browser after you shut it down.

App tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the file sessionstore.js in the Firefox Profile Folder

Do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Browsing History" if Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

I did not chose "clear recent history" But the selected tab group is gone when I return to Firefox

I have the same problem. As soon as I close Firefox and start a new session, the tab groups are gone. And No, "clear history" is not checked in my settings either. Please fix this - this is a great feature and I would love to use it! (Running FF 4.0 on Win Vista, 64 bit system.)

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

Maybe the only way to keep them @ the moment is to enable about:config browser.showQuitWarning?..

I had same trouble on Windows, but I was able restore sessionstore.js using "Previous version": http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/11130/restore-previous-versions-of-files-in-every-edition-of-windows-7/

I hope that "Time machine" for MacOS works similary.
