Firefox will not "log in" to membership websites; instead, Kafka-like, it keeps re-loading the sign-in page.

I have observed this on multiple auction websites, such as eBay: I enter my log-in name and my password, hit send, and Firefox simply re-presents the log-in page, asking for my log-in name and password. My log-ins work just fine on Internet Explorer, so it isn't a computer or a website issue; it's clearly something about the way Firefox interacts with log-ins. Firefox 3.6.13 is the version, OS is Windows Vista Home Premium.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

  • "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite and cookies.txt, if they exist, in the Profile Folder in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Neither thing worked. I next tried uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it. It still behaves the same way: I go to a login screen, feed it the information, and it just loops back to the login screen.
