So I just updated to the new version of firefox, 106.0.5 today, and everything went fine and all. However my copy of webroot has since detected a second version of firefox.exe in a folder marked 'updated' in the Mozilla Firefox folder. However when I went to look for this folder to see what was up, there was no sign of it or the extra firefox.exe file. What happened here, does anyone know? I'm including a screengrab of what Webroot detected on their application protection section of the app. Like I said, I can't find this folder or extra firefox.exe file at all.

Was this a glitch, or what? Anyone have a clue what happened here?

When Firefox updates then it downloads the new version, usually a .mar partial or full update file, and stores this file in the updates folder. Then it prepares the update to apply it on a next restart of Firefox (i.e. copy the files in the updated folder to the actual Firefox program folder). This prepared new version is stored in the updated folder that your Webroot software noticed. This updated folder should be removed automatically once the update has been applied, but if Webroot prevents this (i.e. protects this folder) then you may keep this folder. This is an example where security software doesn't understand how Firefox works and how it updates.

Huh. That's pretty close to what the guys at Webroot tech support thought was the case. The folder did indeed vanish after it did the update. Webroot just threw the listing into the application protection list cause it might not have ever seen it before. In fact since this was the first time it happened, that might be legitimately true.

Huh. If anything like this comes up again, I'll let you know. Thanks for the reply. :)
