Your best bet would be to move your Thunderbird profile off to a separate hard disk.

There are tools for adding password access which might discourage idle browsing, but these don't encrypt the data.

Anyway, have you been given any guarantee they won't wipe or reset your machine? I'd want to back iup all of my personal matter as in insurance against such loss.
