I cannot view slideshows, images, certain pictures on the National Geographic.com website. I've done some research and it seems that some folks who have had the same issue with this site point a finger to JCarousel and the Ghostery plugin. When I look at my Firefox Add-Ons, however, Ghostery doesn't show up. Is it another plug in? Or is Ghostery somewhere in the background of something else? Here's what I have in my list: Adobe Acrobat DivX Web Player Fun Web Products Plugin Stub Google Earth Plugin Google Update iTunes Application Detector Java Deployment Toolkit Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U22 MetaStream 3 Plugin (disabled) Microsoft DRM Motive Plugin Mozilla Default Plug-in Quick Time Plug-in RealJukebox NS Plugin RealOne Player Version RealPlayer(tm) G2 Live Connect Shockwave Flash Shockwave for Director Windows Media Player Plug-In Dynamic Link Library Windows Presentation Foundation

This Ghostery site was linked in the Firefox... http://getsatisfaction.com/ghostery/topics/ghostery_2_1_breaks_javascript

I also use PC Tools Spyware Doctor.

Thanks for any help!

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thanks for the reply. I started in Safe mode and switched to the Default Theme. Nothing changed on NatGeo.com. I tried disabling every extension I have listed in Tools (I have only 5 of them: Browser Defender Toolbar, Java Console-2 of them, Java Quick Starter and MS .NET Framework Assistant. None of that made things better.

Any other ideas?

I read the following on Firefox Support and low and behold, the nationalgeographic.com website was listed as an Exception to NOT let images load. Not sure why that even got on the list, but there you go.

Here is the official guidance:

Firefox allows you to prevent images from loading for certain websites to make pages load faster. If you are having trouble viewing images:

  1. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click on the ToolsFirefox menu (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click OptionsFirefoxEdit menu, and select Options...Preferences...
  2. OptionsPreferences window, select the Content panel.
  3. Make sure there is a check mark next to Load images automatically
  4. Click on Exceptions... next to Load images automatically to open the Exceptions - Images window.
  5. In the Exceptions - Images window, look at the list of sites. Make sure the sites with which you're having trouble are not in the list.
  6. Click Close to closeClose the Exceptions - Images window.
  7. Click OK to close the Options window
