I recently updated my Firefox from ver 3.5 something to ver 3.6.9.

Unlike previous updates, this one did not go smoothly. I can no longer sign in to YouTube. After entering the user / password information, Firefox briefly flashes the message "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" across the top of the screen (so briefly that it was very difficult to read the message), and I am not taken to my YouTube account.

I cleared cookies and cache (via tools/clear recent history). Didn't solve the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried checking and unchecking the box described in your reply. Either way, I'm still unable to sign it to YouTube

Are you still being redirected?

Can you log in if you switch to Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode ?

An easy way to do that is via Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>

  • Check: [X] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

That causes an instant switch, you can see that if you close and reopen the Preferences window and inspect the cookies. All current cookies should be removed (you can get them back if you removed the PB mode check-mark).

If Private Browsing mode work then that indicates a problem with the file that stores the cookies.

Private browsing mode didn't work either for YouTube.

Perhaps a related problem ... Starting this afternoon, I'm also unable to log into my Bank of America account. I spent about an hour with their tech support, clearing caches, cookies, histories, checking settings, etc. The end result was that I'm still unable to log into Bank of America from this computer, though I am able to log in from a friend's computer ... so it's not a problem with my account. Upon entering my user name / password into for Bank of America, I get sent back to the logon screen with the following message "For your protection, you have been signed off. Please sign in again."

Both problems solved, i think!

In the "cookie exceptions" section, I found entries related to both sites that were marked "blocked". After deleting said cookie entries and returning back to "non-private browsing mode", I am able to log in to both sites successfully.

Thanks for your help ... I don't think I would have found this otherwise.

Youtube needs Cookies enabled. You may be using private browsing mode which disables cookies.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Also check the cookies exceptions.
