How are you getting these notices? This may be a website issue.

The notices just pop up in the lower right of the screen usually regardless of which web site I am on. I believe my gmail is open (my choice).

If these are "desktop notifications" sent through Firefox, you can remove the permission of Gmail to send them if we can figure out the source. As a starting point, try this:

While viewing your Inbox:

Call up the Permissions panel of the Page Info dialog using any of these:

• right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Permissions
• (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions
• click the padlock or "i" icon to the left of the site address, then the ">" icon, then More Information > Permissions

Scroll down to "Receive Notifications" and -- presumably the "Use default" box is already unchecked -- select Block.

There's no Save button for the Page Info dialog, your changes are saved as you go.

As you suggested, I did check BLOCK on Notifications and I am still receiving them.

I assume this does not happen if you have completely shut down Firefox.

Does it happen if you shut down and restart Firefox, and don't open Gmail, just other sites?

Do you have any notification-related extensions? You can view, disable, and often remove extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

• Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
• "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
• type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any system extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything that might touch Gmail or generate alerts? If in doubt, disable as a test.

Sometimes a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox before the change takes effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any difference?

Disabled all extensions and turned the computer off. After restarting Ireceived another notice. I'm going to enable the extensions I disabled.

Maybe check the service workers on the about:serviceworkers page.

You can also check the notification settings in "Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Permissions".

Tried about:config and found this: notification.feature.enabled; default boolean false I assume since it's default it isn't the culprit.

How do I find "Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Permissions"? I haven't been able to find it, so far.

Incidentally, The notifications from the little bell at the top right has zero Apps listed in the Settings.

In Firefox 56 on Windows? Type perm in the search box at the top of the Options page to zoom to that section. The reason we call it the Options/Preferences page is due to differences between operating systems:

• Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
• Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
• Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
• Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

Little bell? Is that on Gmail?

"Options -> Privacy & Security" is the about:preferences#privacy page. Scroll down to the permissions section. (Options is named Preferences on Mac and Linux)

Found no indications of notifications.

The little bell is on the Gmail page and indicates "0 Google notifications" when i hold the cursor over it.
