yahoo keeps taking over my serch i turn over to googel 2 serches fine then yahoo apears as serch when i ask googel when i turn off and start again its yahoo agane even after i have deleted it as an option

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove yahoo Anything. Now do the same in the computers Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Does this problem occur:

  • any time you exit Firefox and start Firefox up again
  • only when you shut down Windows and start Windows up again

If you can't find an add-on related to Yahoo -- or to searching, or that you simply don't recognize -- could you copy/paste the address of a results page from the address bar into a reply? Sometimes the parameters in the address point to a particular culprit.

Hi agan it occurs when I turn off f/fox, and after 2/3 searches even when it says google on search the resoult is in yahoo

I only have 4 ad ons non of witch are or have yahoo in there makeup.

Recentley had windows reinstald reset f/fox from backup on probs before.

It would still help for us to see what is in your address bar as Jscher200 asked higher up this thread.

Try to do as the follows when you see those Yahoo results

  1. Press Keyboard Keys (Ctrl+L): Hold down Control, and whilst doing so tap L
    That moves focus to the Addressbar, highlighting all the text
  2. (Ctrl+C) that copies the text to your clipboard
  3. Open this thread so you can reply to it. and open up the Post A Reply box by clicking on [Post Reply]
  4. With the mouse cursor where you want it (Ctrl+V) that pastes the text.

If you did not select to have this site added to your Firefox, it may have arrived as part of a bundle of free software. Here's my suggested procedure for tracking down and cleaning up bad add-ons, hijackers, and other troublemakers. I know it seems long, but it's not that bad.

(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here. (If in doubt, feel free to post a screenshot.)

(2) Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • in the Windows "Run" dialog, type or paste
    firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions. Bear in mind that all extensions are optional.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

(3) You can search for remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

Hopefully once your Firefox and system are clean, you can regain control of your home page and default search engine:

Those web addresses relate to something called foxstart. I have no idea what that is, but it is some third party website with no official association with Mozilla -- That's us -- Firefox.

Why not try with the default Firefox home page and set the search engines to use in the Firefox search bar. Whatever search engine is set to be the default in the search bar is then used in all ordinary Firefpx searches. Additionally you may make one of searches using any search engine you have installed.

Note once a Home page is set you may choose to start instead with the tabs and windows from a previous session, but may still open the home page or pages as additipnal tabs by using the home icon.

It’s very sad, but many of the software downloaders / installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well. You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print. You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does. From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.
