Hi,

I can not select button by using mouse. Text can be selected but when selecting text along with button, only text is selected. Button remains unselected.

It is working fine in other browsers. Can you please let me know whether do we have any work around for this issue. Thanks in advance.

Regards, Prit

What is your computer system? What is the website where you are having the problem?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • Clear the Cache and
  • Remove Cookies
Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

  • Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
  • Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe websites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

Hmm, I see what you mean. I can't copy any of these kinds of form controls:

<button> <input type="submit"> <select>

When I select text before and after one of those, right-click, and View Selection Source. the blue highlight actually stops right before the first uncopyable kind of control. I don't know whether these things are related.

Is there a workaround? I really have no idea. Do you recall when this last worked for you?

This is so odd. If I modify a page to be editable, select a section of it containing a form, then press the Delete key, some buttons aren't deleted. That seems like a bug.

To make a page editable, you can right-click a blank area of the body, and choose Inspect Element (Q) to open an HTML view of the page in the Inspector tool, which usually appears in the lower part of the tab. Find the <body> tag and double-click it, then add a space and contenteditable and press Enter. You should now be able to select and delete parts of the body of the page. To restore normality, reload the page.

Thank you for your reply and suggestion. I tried to remove cookies but no use. We are providing an option to show context menu when user selecting the content from web page.

test1 test2 test3 <button type="button" >button text</button>test4 test5

In firefox, when user selecting the above content through mouse, it is selecting only text, not the button, (test1, test2, test3, test4, test5). Looks like in firefox, button control not able to select through mouse. I created a sample web page with the sample content. Please check the attached image for your reference.

After selecting the text, using jquery reading the content. Since button control is not selected, in jquery, could not get the button text. It is working fine in IE and Chrome browser.

If we are able to select the button text, we can get the button text along with content. Please let me know if this is the expected behavior in Firefox. It would be helpful, if you share any Firefox article about this.

When I searched the bug tracking system, I couldn't find anything specific. You might want to file a new bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi
