Firefox slow to load websites that call Google (e.g. www.googleapis.com, www.googletagservices.com)

For the last couple of weeks Firefox has become slow when loading pages making calls to Google. Sometimes the pages eventually timeout but usually they take so long that I close the browser. I do not have this problem with Chrome or Safari on the same computer (I'm running a Mac). I do not have this problem using Firefox from my Windows laptop or iPad.

I have tried the solutions listed here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1083389, but, nothing is helping.

I have also tried to uninstall / reinstall Mozilla Firefox but this didn't help.

Is there something that changed recently to cause this? Is there something that can be done to fix the problem?

On a co-worker's recommendation I reset my modem and that appears to have solved the problem, everything moves along great now. I don't get why this would affect only one computer but in case anyone else runs into similar behavior - give resetting your modem a try.
