just after midnight Sept 25 I could no longer send emails from two of my gmail addresses which are forwarded to my thunderbird. this happened over a year and a half ago and it turned out to be a security setting that needed to be lowered or removed on google but I went to google security and it too has changed in 18+ months. I didn't find anything that I could lower or remove.

I am guessing there was a update with higher security wall but I'm helpless. when I try to send an email I am asked to enter my password, same as last time. that is not the problem. I am signed in and receiving my mail just fine. this is the message "Login to server ____ with user name ____ failed. "

I asked these questions earlier this morning and got a reply from Christ1, so thanks for the reply.

       Question one, please is there a current version of MozBackup I can use? 
       Question two is how do I stop the automatic download of the latest Thunderbird until I can find a new 
       platform with backup that I can switch my mail to? 

So Mozbackup was abandoned so there is no alternative. I tried the alternative backup method that was suggested and found it very cumbersome and totally confusing in places. Maybe I did something wrong but it ended up with the same disastrous result in that I lost all my old emails and entire address book. I did a backup with Mozbackup beforehand so luckily, with an old version of Thunderbird that I was lucky enough to find on an old backup disc I was able to recover everything. I see in the latest version of Thunderbird there's an option to stop automatic downloads of newer versions which is great. Unfortunately, it seems that facility doesn't exist in the old version that I'm managing to run on.

Unfortunately, with no simple to use backup for the current version of Thunderbird, and the inability to stop automatic downloads of the current version, I can see no alternative other than to shift to a new mail platform. Does anyone know of one that can import from MozBackup?

   Select the Attachments panel and choose the Outgoing tab. 

Sounds easy, but my 'Options' menu has no 'Attachments' panel to select, thus no 'Outgoing' tab to select.

For some unknown reason my email stopped working from my provider (Spectrum, i.e. Time Warner Cable) a couple days ago. They were no help in fixing (as I was still able to send/receive email from the website).

I decided to just recreate new accounts from scratch. I have 2 accounts, a personal and business account. The personal account worked fine and I migrated all my old emails over. The business account could receive email but not send.

If I go to Options/Security/Passwords, I have password entries for personal account incoming (imap://mail.twc.com) and outgoing (smtp://mail.twc.com). For my business account, there is an entry for incoming, but not one for outgoing.

As far as I can tell, you can enter a password when you create the account, but never again after.

If I try to send an email, the popup message says "Status: connected to mail.twc.com". Finally it says "The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.twc.com timed out."

long user of TB here.

I updated the new TB to the latest release (78.3.1, x64) and I've noticed that now encryptions and the signature features are integrated into TB drectly. In the past I used Enigmail for those features.

Now, with the latest version of TB if I want to encrypt and signing an email for only some of my recipients I have to go to the menu and click on the appropriate menu items. While before there were two toolbar buttons for that purpose. Even more, once I specified a recipient whose key already was inside TB those buttons where automatically toggled.

Having those toolbar buttons was a nice features compared to what I have to do now going to the main menu and clicking on menu items.

Is it possible to have the encryptions and signature features again as toolbar buttons on the latest TB?

I tried customizing the toolbar but there were no buttons for encryption and signature.

I use the "Send to Mail Recipient" shortcut to attach files to emails all the time. It works flawlessly. However, it's generally the same recipient every time and I would love to be able to add a "Send to Joe@email.com" for example. I know where to add the shortcut in Windows, but what operators would have to be added to the shortcut are beyond me. Thanks!

I understand that the developer of the FiltaQuilla AddOn is busy and may not be available to make the necessary updates to conform to Thunderbird 78. I had used FiltaQuilla to allow me to detach files from multiple emails using a filter.

This seems like a feature that would be useful to many other users.

Is there any chance that the Thunderbird developers will ever change the functionality of the Attachments - Detach All feature to enable it to work on multiple emails? e.g. so that you could create a filter and detach all the attachments of multiple emails to a particular folder.

I have synched only the most recent 30 days messages under Synchronization & Storage. If I create any new message filter (particularly matching rule containing a word of the message body), TBird starts downloading messages aggressively regardless of its age. There have only been 500 messages in the past 30days. But it is downloading more than 30000 messages. Initially the profile folder was only 250MB, After enabling the filter it is gradually increasing. Now it is 2.5 GB.

In fact there is no any messages that match the filter rule. I created that filter for the messages to be received in the future. (For automatic tagging purpose).

How can I apply a filter only for the latest messages to be received but not on the older than the N days specified under Synchronization & Storage?

I have used Thunderbird for a while and had saved emails from a lineone account (I think it is an IMAP account). Until recently I had the regular folders available (inbox, sent, junk etc) for the account available in Thunderbird.

The actual email account itself was opened about 15 years ago and couple of years changed so I could no longer gain access to the email account but the old emails remained in Thunderbird as did the folders.

I now need to access some of the emails from the account that should be on Thunderbird but have found that all folders have disappeared except for the inbox, which is shown as empty.

I have searched for the emails in a global search on Thunderbird and it finds emails from the account but I cannot open the emails. In the global search the heading of the email appears and I can read the first 4 or 5 lines of the email before the next email appears in the box below. Hence, it appears the emails have not be permanently lost. Also, when carrying out the search it details the email account where the emails are found in the column on the left hand side of the screen and the account with the missing emails is shown there with a detail of the number of emails relating to that search in the account so the emails have not been deleted.

Can anybody help me to restore or access the emails from the missing account or to access the emails when carrying out the search.

Please note I only have basic knowledge of Thunderbird so if you could keep any responses in simple terms!!

This is an ages-old prob. for my use of t-bird, going back dozens of yrs (version irrelevant). Windows only, since I hardly use MacOS & don't know if prob. exists there. -In the "msg list" pane, I will put cursor on a message, to highlight & (click to) read its contents below in the "msg pane." Please note, another msg may already be in the "msg pane." That msg is already there from the last time I had opened t-bird. -I click on the highlighted msg in the "msg list" pane. It does NOT open. Instead, the highlight MOVES ITSELF to an "old" msg header in "msg list" pane (the header related to the msg previously opened before, as stated above). It's hard for me to express this, but easy to see. In the end, I have to move the cursor AGAIN (in "msg list" pane) to the desired msg I want opened. This has been endlessly irritating in a small way. Is there a fix for this? Thank you.
