In 2023, when I had Firefox v110.0.1, an unfortunate hiccup caused my handful of windows and their many tabs to not appear when I restarted Firefox. I asked for help here and jscher2000 was lovely and walked me through some things to do, which are discussed in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1408206 and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1396868.

Unfortunately, though I now have Firefox v158.0, this happened again a few days ago and I've been trying to retrace his steps the best I can with the newer version, but to no avail, unfortunately, partly because I don't now see a sessionstore.jsonlz4 file that jscher2000 referenced back in 2023.

(As I remember it, a system upgrade was taking place on my PC, and, also, a new version of Firefox {the v158.0 I mentioned} was also being installed, too.)

I found a Profiles folder (C:\Users\Bram\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\p9f543mv.Default User\) that seemed to be relevant, and found a sessionstore-backups subfolder there. However, while that subfolder did NOT have a sessionstore.jsonlz4 file, it DID have files named previous..., recovery..., and (possibly connected to one of those updates), an upgrade... file, too.

When I first found this subfolder (in that "Roaming" area...I looked also in the "Local" area but wasn't confident I found anything more relevant), I copied/renamed previous... (with a timestamp from around the time of that system update, and large filesize) to previousOLD..., and the MUCH smaller recovery... to recoveryOLD, similar to the instructions in those threads. However, even if I also copied that previous... file to sessionstore... (to match those earlier instructions), Firefox would launch but with only the most-recent tabs (i.e., the Advanced Preferences {about:config} tab along with about:support {to provide Troubleshooting Information}) showing, as I'd launched them as part of my efforts to restore the session, and nothing else.)

I have "healthily-sized" recovery... and upgrade... files with the same date/time-stamp and filesize, though my efforts to try to get Firefox to open correctly have removed a similarly-sized previous... from that folder unfortunately -- hopefully the fact that recovery... and that upgrade... file have similar sizes mean they might(?) be valid substitutes for previous... should one be needed.

I hope that this described my situation well, but am happy to answer any questions you might have about it to the best of my ability.

Clearly, Mozilla updated some Firefox characteristics in the intervening three (3) years but I'm not sure how to adapt the new set of filenames to those previous instructions although, as I wrote, maybe one of those larger files will end up being what Firefox uses to try to restore everything...I just don't know what to do with it (i.e., what to rename it and/or where to copy/paste it) in order to make that happen.

Can you please offer some advice in this regard?

I had to change my Google password and I cannot get to my mail. I tried to uninstall/reinstall Thunderbird with no joy. When I try to open Thunderbird, Google responds: "The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That is all we know."

I drag messages from Thunderbird's Sent folder into subfolders under Thunderbird's Gmail account but when I log into Gmail directly the messages have not moved out Gmail's Sent folder even though the tags show the subfolder where they should have been placed. What can I do to have those messages appear in subfolders as they do when I am in Thunderbird?

I have multiple email accounts on Thunderbird (on MX Linux)... att.net, gmail.com and aol.com

While traveling without my computer, i had to reset my aol password on my iphone.

Now that I'm back at my desk, and being unable to find how to change the aol password on Thunderbird, I deleted the AOL imap account and have tried much of today to add a new AOL account.

In the past, I could create an 'app password' within AOL (browser) and use that password in Thunderbird... but that is no longer working.

Any guidance/suggestions?

I am running the latest Thunderbird version 140.17.0esr (64-bit) available in my MX Linux.

The Microsfot365 tab keeps opening up in my browser, multiple tabs will open there is no time frame between. Sometimes one will open, followed by a tab every few seconds. Sometimes it's a few mins between the tabs opening. Two have opened since I opened this window.

Trying to set up new Gmail account in Thunderbird. New account dialog opens, recognises Gmail address and imap details, but doesn't allow me to provide Gmail with password. Authentification failure results.

How do I set up Thunderbird so that no incoming email is automatically diverted to my spam folder?

I like TB flagging incoming emails that it thinks is spam, but I don't want TB to automatically divert any emails into the Spam folder. Is this possible?

I use four email accounts on TB. I'd like to set this up for all four accounts.

I somehow have a Spam folder stuck in Trash. This can of course be removed if I manually empty Trash, but respawns automatically when I restart TB. I've made sure that the "real" Spam folder is pointed to correctly in Account Settings.

How can I safely (and persistently) remove this phantom Spam folder? Thanks in advance.

Fixing recent UI mistakes

It started with that new button on the menu bar to the left of the arrows which IMO was just clutter. I don't even remember what it was supposed to do but at least it was easy to remove.

The next UI mistake IMO was adding the new "Profiles" menu as a main menu entry instead of as a submenu under "Files" or "Tools". This new entry renders dead last after the older menu bar is already onscreen (why?). Many times I am clicking "Tools" or "Help" only to have those pushed left just as clicked. Maybe I am too quick with the mouse, but this feels like a prank not a feature. I saw no way to move "Profiles" to a submenu so I had to disable the feature in about:config.

Now there is a new menu option "Help->Share Firefox" placed as the last submenu entry where "About Firefox" has always been, so out of habit I am hitting "Share" when I really want "About". Again this feels like a prank. Wouldn't "Share" make more sense under "Tools"?

These bad UI decisions could be alleviated with a way to edit the menu organization. Is this feature available? Maybe as a theme?

Recently, I have been experiencing this inconvenience where a google search shrinks to one side of the screen in a vertical format similar to the phone display. The 502 error usually also comes along when the google search utilizes Gemini. I've tried other browsers like Microsoft Edge with no problems.

Firefox blocks me from several sites - error code 400 - 404 I was doing ID ME password reset and was blocked so I

canceled some extensions to stop blocking cookies but didn't try again yet as they were going to lock me out of ID ME

Firefox is continuously uploading or backing up then deleting it and then backing it up again over and over I am on a metered connection this is destroying me please help
