What article are you talking about? This "not responding" and then I get pop-ups saying that a script is busy on my page and to click to continue or stop the script. WHAT IS THAT? I do not want to use internet explorer but I am tired of my computer "not responding"! What do I need to do to fix my browser (YOU) so this doesn't happen? I have tried norton and other various sites to remove whatever it is that is causing you to "not respond". Please help me!!!

If you give scripts a bit more time, you see fewer of those error messages about the script not completing. You can do that by increasing the time allowed in about:config.

  • dom.max_chrome_script_run_time = 30
  • dom.max_script_run_time = 20

Increasing both times by 10 has been helpful to me.

I am so glad somebody responded to my question. However, I am VERY computer illiterate ( I guess the term would be called a technophobe) --anyway, could you please tell me what a "script" is and why do I have these messages all the time--I know it's not normal and I have no idea what "high-speed internet" feels like (lol). If there is a specific place that I have to go and type in codes to remove this kind of stuff and what that solution is I would love to know! Whatever you tell me has to be VERY BASIC- SIMPLE Thank You

Does the pop-up mentioned the name of the script (and a possible line number)?

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

Yes, it mentions the name which is different each time it pops up. Is C:/ a line #? And what is a screen shot? I mean it, I don't know much at all--I do not listen to music or know how to down load photos, I don't even text, my cell phone is obsolete. When I get these messages, it says, " A script may be busy on this page. You may stop the script or let it continue. and it lists the C:/ prompt stuff. And when I hit continue, it lets me use the computer but it is still superslow. Is Mozilla a bad browswer to have? Someone that I work for who is a computer systems analyst said it had something to do with the cache, and I have to say again, what is THAT and how do I fix it so i can have high speed internet through a browser that is NOT internet explorer? All I want to do is check my email and my bank account and pay some bills. I know I'm whining, but nobody has been able to help me so far. I appreciate any replies that I can possibly understand. Thank you.

If you type about:config into the address bar and press the return key, you get into a configuration window. See this page for more explanation:

You then get a tongue-in-cheek type of warning, so then you have to promise to be careful. After that, type into the text box at the top, "script" (without the quotes), and close to the top of the page will be the two settings that I mentioned before. Right-click the line to get a menu that allows you to modify the setting.
