Other audio OK but no sound with Firefox and it doesn't appear on volume mixer - why?

I have followed the advice on 'No sound in Firefox' without success. I can't play sounds on websites with or without plug-ins. I have no problem playing Windows Media Player. I have re-started with add-ons disabled. Firefox does not appear on volume mixer.

Have you tried updating your Java? I followed this help from Mozilla: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Using%20the%20Java%20plugin%20with%20Firefox

I did the recommended test and it advised me to update my Java. I did that and now it's working again... :)
