When I press "update" it runs forever, never completing the update. What am I doing wrong?
I try to update. Press "Update Firefox" and leave it, as I do with all other program updates I receive on my Mac. I can leave it for 24 hours and still when I come back it's still running.
I then cancel it and a day or two later I get another offer to update. I've done this several times all with the same result.

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
- Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
- Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
- Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.
