How to Recover a Missing Profile That Doesn't Show Up on the List
To make a long story short, since this morning, Firefox had no more profiles after an update. The one I am currently using, which came to exist this morning and only contains information from this morning, is the only one that shows up when I try to follow the recovery instructions. My internet history beyond today seems to no longer exist. How do I recover my bookmarks and passwords? Or are they gone forever?

I assume you checked the about:profiles page. That list is generated from an index file named profiles.ini. It's possible that profiles.ini somehow got deleted or corrupted, so Firefox lost track of your profiles. To check whether you have additional profile folders, you can either:
(A) Open your current profile folder from the Troubleshooting Information or about:profiles page, then in the Windows File Explorer window, click "Profiles" in the address bar to jump up a level and view all the current folders on disk
(B) Type or paste the following into the Windows system search box, then when it suggest using Windows File Explorer to open the path, click Open:
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
Whatever you find, do not delete anything.
If you do not see more folders there, is it possible that Windows started up under the wrong user? %APPDATA% is user-specific.
If you do see more folders there, let's discuss how best to reeducate Firefox about their existence.
Thank you! I'm glad to see the data still exists at that folder location. This is helping a lot
Okay!
You can create a new profile and connect it to one of the orphaned folders this way:
Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.
- Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next.
- Assign a new profile name like Nov2025 and Firefox should show a proposed folder name with a new random part.
- Click the "Choose Folder..." button, then if needed, navigate through %APPDATA% to the Profiles folder, and then select the old profile folder.
- Back in Firefox, confirm that Firefox lists the correct folder name, and not Profiles (the parent folder). If all is well, click the Done button. If it's not right, use "Choose Folder..." again.
After creating a new profile, Firefox usually makes it your default profile (for external links and the next startup). To test, scroll down to it and click the Launch profile in new browser button.
Did it work?
If so, you're done.
If not, you can close that window without affecting your regular Firefox profile and change back to the profile you started with before this post. Click the Set as Default Profile button below that profile.
