Add Files to "Files and Applications" to be asked wether to save or to open with...
Hello. I noticed that Firefox (98.0.2) doesn't even ask if the file should be saved or opened with a program when downloading some file types. Unfortunately, these file types (e.g. GPX) are not listed under Settings --> General --> Files and Applications, so that I could assign them to a program or specify that they should always be asked. And I can't add these files somehow... I have also deleted the file "handler.json" in the profile folder, hoping to be asked then. But that doesn't happen. GPX files, for example, are assigned to the GSAK program in the system - but Firefox just wants to save them and doesn't offer the option to open them directly in GSAK. Does anyone know advice how I can get Firefox to give me the choice? Thanks a lot.

If the Applications settings panel doesn't have an entry for GPX (or other file types):
You have to download a file and then select "Always Open Similar Files" in the Downloads Panel right-click context menu for the downloaded file. For past downloads, you can also do that from the Downloads history in the Library window (Firefox menu The image "fx89menuButton" does not exist. ->Downloads)
From Manage file types and download actions in Firefox under Adding download actions:
Starting in Firefox version 98, when you download a type of file that can be opened with an installed application, you can set Firefox to always open similar files:
- Right-click the downloaded item in the Downloads panel. (You can also do this from the Library window Downloads history.)
- Select Always Open Similar Files from the context menu.
- This option may be missing for executable files, or if the website has served the file with an incorrect content type.
The image "Fx98Downloads-FileContextmenu" does not exist.
Selecting Always Open Similar Files will add a new entry to the General panel Applications section of Firefox settings, to use the system default application to open that type of file. You can later change it to a different download action , such as Always ask or Save File, if you wish.

Hello. See the procedure in the link below.
Hello. Thanks for the link - but unfortunately this one does not help me to solve my problem. In the list of file types, for example, the file type PDF is present - with the setting to ask each time what to do with the file. (see pictures 1 and 2). But e.g. the file type GPX is missing - and when I click on such a file, the dialog for saving the file is opened immediately. (see picture 3) But I would like to have the possibility to choose whether I want to save it or open it directly with a program.

Does the menu item "Always Open Similar Files" entry exist when you download that type of file and right-click it from the Downloads panel or Library/Downloads window?
Yes it does. When I click on "always open similar files" the file opens in Firefox. (Looks like attachment #2 above) But / and now I have the entry in the list of file-types and can set the default action. After reasigning it to the standard-program everything looks fine, as far as I can see for the moment.
Thank you very much...
You're welcome. I'll mark this question as "solved".
