An error occured while printing dialogue box appears. Tried reset, tried refresh, do not have avast. Any help?

Can no longer print from Firefox. "Printer error" dialogue box appears that says 'an error occurred while printing' then "Print Preview Error" dialogue box appears that also says 'an error occurred while printing'. Tried the reset and refresh fixes to no avail. Read about avast software affecting some people but do not have avast. Can print from other applications so it does not seem to be a printer problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update: Having the same problem in Thunderbird as in Firefox. All other software is printing normally
