how do I import old emails having accidentally deleted email account?
I deleted my thunderbird email account and now cannot access the emails I had received. I am trying to find them on the computer and import them, but don't know how to do so. I am using thunderbird on windows 8.1. All help much appreciated!!

If you deleted the mail account then it is expected that you would not see emails. So there is nothing wrong with that part.
It is possible to recover a deleted account.
If you had an IMAP mail account then you simply need to recreate the IMAP account as the emails are stored on the server and IMAP mail accounts have a remote view of the fodlers on the server.
If you had a Pop mail account, then emails are download from the server Inbox to the Thunderbird mail account Inbox. By default, they download and then delete the copy off the server. So now the only copy in on your computer. You can set it up so that emails are not deleted off the server. Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the pop mail account select 'Leave messages on server' click on OK
Note: If you have an account and you want to delete it, but you want to still see emails, you would need to move the emails into Local Folders first and then delete the account.
How to recover a deleted mail account.
This link tells you how to recover the account. But I have outlined the process below.
First check emails exist make hidden folders and files visible:
In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'show Folder' button
A new window opens showing your Profile folder. click on 'Mail' click on the pop mail account name (If this does not exist then they are gone). note it's name and where this is located. Typically: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\profile folder name\Mail\pop mail account name.
This will show you all the folders listed as 'files', they do not have any extension. So, eg: you will see Inbox (containing emails) and Inbox.msf (indexing file - not emails).
you can open Inbox file using Notepad to see emails.
Assuming the account and emails are still there: Close the window.
In Thunderbird: create a new pop mail account using same settings as the one you deleted. File > new > Exisitng mail account
Now to point the newly created mail account to use the deleted mail account. Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the newly created pop mail account. bottom right look for 'local Directory' click on 'Browse' button locate your original pop mail account and click on open Typically it will be located here: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\profile folder name\Mail\pop mail account name.
