I'm presently running (Linux) Firefox 16.0.2. I do not have a search bar (to the right of address bar). 

        I don't remember if I ever did. So how do I get the search bar?...Thank you

Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars might help, you should be able to drag the Search Bar to wherever you would like it.
