Firefox continues to open by itself and displays objectional websites like gay porn etc. Then another notice appears that insists that my computer is infected and they want $59.95 to clean it up. I think firefox, which I almost never use, is infected. Therefore, I'd like to get rid of firefox but I can't seem to do so. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Uninstalling Firefox will almost certainly not stop this. You have probably fallen victim to the Mac malware problem that has recently infected many Mac users, it often displays gay porn. For details on removing it see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4650
