While in E bay, I buy an item, when I press "Commit to buy", Firefox crashes every time. Then does the report thing and takes me back to the 'commit to buy' page again .... several times it has bought a second item. I have to be careful to exit and restart Firefox. This does not happen with IE.

Hello Mike.

You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.

If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

I disabled all plug ins, then I went and bought an item....same problem. Its hard to try something and buy an item that is cheap to test every time. If someone else had the same problem, then I won't spend so much trying things. I am trying safe mode again.

Yes, I understand.

Well, if disabling all add-ons doesn't do it, I think maybe some external software may be messing with Firefox. But see this page:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+crashes+when+you+open+it#Getting_your_crash_report

Can you please provide a link to a crash report of when it crashed with the add-ons disabled?

Here is what I am doing. First I just cant go and buy something on E bay to test every add-on. So I have to load Firefox in safe mode to use E bay. That is what I am doing at this time. Running Firefox in SAFE mode is a sure thing when using or on E bay. That is my fix at this time. I will live with it.

Mike, if safe mode doesn't have the problem, it's probably an add-on. Before, you said you had disabled all plugins. I asked you to disable all add-ons (which include plugins, but also extensions and themes).

YES, YES, before I thought that I had removed (disabled) all add-ons, everything I could find and ran it. No change, so now I run it in SAFE Mode and it works OK. I have turned everything off except those for mozilla, yahoo and windows in the add-ons. I'll try again when I buy something from Ebay again.

So far so good. No problems with just the items I listed before turn on or enabled. All others disabled. Works OK. Thanks.

I have the same problem. I have attached a Word document file with 3 screen shots of my plugins and extensions. I f we compare the plugins and extension that we are each using, maybe we can speed up the process and find the culprit. If the Word document fails to post, I will make a list and re-post later today.

Here is my list.

Does the problem happen with all add-ons disabled?

The next time I "Commit to Buy" on ebay I will start Firefox in safe mode, but that may be several weeks from now. I don't find this issue worthy of multiple purchases on ebay solely to resolve the issue.

Others have reported that the problem goes away when they start Firefox in safe mode. Therefore, it seams to me that the next step is to isolate the add-on(s) that are causing the problem. This is why I went to the trouble of generating the list of add-ons I have installed. If others do likewise, who knows, we may actually make progress in finding a common add-on. Comparing lists of add-on does not require anyone to make a purchase on ebay in order to proceed with troubleshooting the issue.

I'm looking forward to seeing the lists of add-ons from other users that have experienced the same problem.

Before anyone asks, I did not list Themes because I only have the Default Themes 3.6. Windows XP Pro SP3, Firefox 3.6, No other apps running. I experienced the same crash when I clicked on the "Confirm Bid" button on eBay. I have not sent a crash report to Mozilla. After snipping a bid at $550 on eBay with only 5 seconds remaining and experiencing the crash, returning to eBay quickly was far more important than taking the time to send a crash report to Mozilla.

I found and resolved the problem on my system. It was the Firefox extension "The Browser Highlighter 1.0.17641"

I did my testing by finding new eBay listings with more than 1 bid and with a very low chance of my outbidding or winning, however I may wind up winning something I don't need.

Remember I had indicated that the problem occurred when I clicked on the "Confirm Bid" button on eBay.

I disabled The Browser Highlighter 1.0.17641 and re-enabled everything else. Retested and found the problem cured.

Please post if you find this solves your problem as well.

I found an update for "The Browser Highlighter". I downloaded and installed version 1.0.17780 Firefox did not crash with this version installed.

I had installed the earlier version of The Browser Highlighter over a year ago and had no problems. I believe the problem began when a recent Firefox update was installed.

Do you have a link to the update?

Yes, I should have included the link in my previous post. Here is the link to the update. http://www.thebrowserhighlighter.com/tools_alerts.jsp

Update:

The problem came back on my last bid today on eBay even though I had the latest version (1.0.17780) of "The Browser Highlighter" installed and enabled.

So, again I disabled The Browser Highlighter and ran a test bid on eBay and had no problems.

I will be leaving the extension disabled now. I have some concern that the extension could be "The Browser Highjacker"

I did some more research. Apparently from what I've read The Browser Highlighter is an unneeded add on. Go to Tools>Add Ons. You'll see it listed. I removed mine and I've no further trouble.

YAY! That totally worked for me. I've been going crazy for the last month . . . .
