Moved messages to Local Folder keeps reappearing in the Inbox again

Vikas Kumar

New to Thunderbird.

I have added a Gmail account to Thunderbird. I select a message in Inbox, right click > Move To > Local Folder

It seems to work. It creates a copy in Local Folder.

However, a few seconds later, the message reappears in the Inbox. The message in Local Folder is still there, confirming that copy is made successfully.

Also, the message is still in Gmail account when viewed from Google's Gmail. It's clearly working like Copy rather than Move.

This is frustrating. Is it a bug?

Good point I'll see if does the same for me.

However, as a heads up, I would advise you use 'COPY to' instead of 'Move to'. When it comes to IMAP, anything you do invokes a load of jibber jabber with the server and normally a 'Move to' a folder outside of the Imap account will be seen as a move off server basically a delete. If something goes wrong in all the communications, you might lose the email. It you use 'COPY TO' then if something goes wrong at least you will not lose the original and can repeat the action.

Can you offer a bit more info that can help with tests.

What OS are you use ? What version of Thunderbird are you using ? Did you get the install/download from the official Thunderbird website:

If yes, then at least it will get profile set up in the auto location as set by Thunderbird.

Or from somewhere else eg: Windows app store, Snap, Flatpak etc Where you get it from and what OS you use determines where your profile will get auto set up.
