Thunderbird keeps sporadically locking up. When forced to close and reopen, all open tabs are lost.
My problem is pretty well defined in the Subject line. For years I have been so contented with Thunderbird -- its display, its options, etc. About 6 months ago it started doing this thing where when shut down and later reopened, it comes up with a different display than I had been using and all tabs which were open were now closed and "lost" (not to be found under "recently closed tabs"). This is really distressing since I often leave a tab open like leaving a (physical) letter on my (physical) desk to remind me that I need to gather information and reply to it. Once my Thunderbird tabs are closed and no where to be found, I have no way of recollecting what follow-up business I need to complete. Please help. I'm running on Windows 10.

Help/Troubleshooting, Profile Folder, Open Folder, close TB, delete session.json, the file that stores the set of open tabs at last closing. See if that restores the normal operation. As for lockups, that can be caused by antivirus apps that scan the profile folder. Add the profile folder as an exclusion or exception to AV settings if it isn't already.
