I can't receive emails: get message 'sending of password for user xxxx did not succeed. Mail server pop.tools.sky.com responded: Server
I haven't been able to receive emails in Thunderbird for about 2 months. I can access them via the Sky Yahoo interface, and on my iPad. I can send them OK from Thunderbird.
When I try to get emails I get the message: 'Sending of password for user jane.hammett@sky.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.tools.sky.com responded: Server error - Please try again later.'
This happened just after I update my account with a new 16-digit ultra safe password, as advised by Sky (Yahoo) mail. (But this process worked for iPad).
What has gone wrong? Please help! Would be so grateful for advice. Am running Windows Defender as anti-virus.

Thank you for your reply.
I use those settings for the outgoing mail server, but my settings for the incoming mail server are pop: pop.tools.sky.com and port is 995, not 993.
These have always been my settings and Thunderbird worked fine for years with these.
Should they be changed?
When you changed the password, did you delete or update the password TB uses stored in Tools/Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords?
Your server settings look OK, according to this article.
Thank you for your reply.
I deleted the previous password. The only one in that list is my current Yahoo-generated 16-digit password. Is that correct?
Does it work if you delete the 16-digit app password, restart TB, and instead use the normal Sky iD account password? Otherwise, do you have access by 'less-secure' apps enabled?
I tried this in my Yahoo program but as I'm accessing it on desktop, it's not an app, and there is no option to choose 'Allow apps that use less secure sign in' in "Account security" settings. Will try the other option now...
I've deleted my master password and added my current Yahoo password. I can still send emails but can't receive them - but I don't get an error message now.
Thank you for your help. What else can I try?
If you log into your account here, can you not 'Allow apps that use...'? A similar issue with BT Yahoo suggests you may have to switch to 'Basic view' in the webmail interface.

If you can't receive mail, but there's no error message, it could be that passwords aren't the issue, but there's a corrupted message on the server blocking downloads to TB. Access the account through webmail and delete or move messages, beginning with the oldest one that hasn't downloaded
