Settings doesn't show all options unless you search (may be because General tab does nothing)

I thought I mentioned before that my General tab in my settings does nothing (whatever tab I was on before, including the hidden about:preferences#containers tab, stays up), but just in case, I'll mention it again.

However, I'm not confident that this is what is causing the settings pages to show less than the settings search (Ctrl-F), since I thought the Container Tabs setting was supposed to be on about:preferences#privacy.

Whether it is connected or not, when I search for container, I can see the container tabs setting, but not when just scrolling through each of the settings tabs.

As this is about tabs, the Container Tabs settings should reside under the General panel > Tabs section > (Enable Container Tabs) > Settings... button. (It might have been under the Privacy section before.)

Are there any other settings you can’t reach?

Also, when in doubt or not done already, be sure to use a dedicated profile for Beta or Nighty versions since late changes may apply, and sharing their profiles with release versions may not be a good thing to do.

This setting is under the General tab and not under Privacy, but may need to be enabled via a pref.

  • Options/Preferences -> General -> Tabs: Enable Container Tabs
  • privacy.userContext.ui.enabled = true
  • privacy.userContext.enabled = true
  • privacy.userContext.longPressBehavior = 2 (longpress on new tab + after a delay)

Firefox just automatically updated from the old version to the new Quantum version (57.0) today for me, and I have this exact same problem. When the Options page opens on the General tab, it actually displays the Search tab with none of the information filled out (left screenshot). Switching to one of the other tabs (Search, Privacy and Security, or Firefox Account) works properly, but when switching back to the General tab, the tab content is not refreshed and just continues to show the tab info that I was previously on (middle screenshot).

I'll note though that if I search for something (like "tab"), I am able to see the and modify the settings that would normally appear in the General tab (right screenshot).

Also, this same issue is also reported in this post.

I would suggest to refresh Firefox and/or to create and launch another profile to see if you can reproduce the issue.

Following @jsher2000's instructions and renaming the installation folder to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox (old)" and reinstalling Firefox fixed the problem for me; also it installed the 64-bit version instead of the 32-bit one. Thanks!
