Firefox causes huge performance hit on windowed borderless games that have vsync turned on. Known or fix anyone?
Condition: Desktop with Firefox running and a Game open in windowed Borderless Mode and Vsync turned on in the Game options.
Problem: 30-40 FPS in the game and visible frame stuttering.
The problem resolves when i exit Firefox (FPS back to 85, smooth frames) or use Vsync off in the game ( which i am not a fan of) Steps taken to rule out CPU/GPU utilization by firefox:
- Refreshed Firefox. (Disables all Addons, Standard Settings etc) - Disabled all Plugins - Only one window and one tab open, minimized. - Closed all Sub Threads (Flash Plugin) (via Process Explorer) - Set Process Priority to Background/Idle - Set CPU Affinity to only one Core (of 4) (via Process Explorer) - Killed all Process DLL Threads apart from firefox.exe (via Process Explorer) - Suspended the Process (via Process Explorer)
All these actions did NOT resolve the FPS hit in the game! I basically disabled everything possible and paused the process. There is no CPU or GPU utilisation and yet the game is lagging. If i then kill the process firefox.exe, the frames are back to normal... The only thing that enables running the game normal with firefox open is firefox in the compatibility mode. Changes in the Nvidia Panel custom application settings (vsync, power, multi display etc) did not resolve the problem. By the way thunderbird causes the same problem.
Games i tried that have the Problem: Starcraft II, Space Engineers
My specs: i7 4.0 Ghz, GTX 670 (344.48), 12GB RAM, SSD Win7 Pro
