How can I set firefox in order to open a new tab for every new search?

Every search i've done since the last update, Firefox open the new search in the old tab. I've already fixed the boolean valor in browser.search.openintab to true in about:config, but it's working only with google search (and not, i.e. with youtube search).

That combination is working for me:

  • browser.search.openintab = true
  • YouTube search plugin installed from YouTube (when the green + appeared on the magnifying glass icon on the search bar)
    • clicking the "one-time" icon
    • making YouTube the default search engine

How about other search plugins: do those work like Google or like YouTube?

I noticed you have several extensions. Could one of those be altering how the search bar works? You could test in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Any difference?
