Hi
When I open a NEW TAB it loads "Bing" - no matter what I try! including trying to edit config settings!
(Note I have recently installed DivX player / converter / movies .....is it the cause?)
So.....on desktop .....double click Mozilla ...loads ok Open a new tab.....it loads Bing! & I hate it!
Ive tried;
1.Tools - options - addons - extensions & plugins - cant see anything there? 2. On the small address bar (top right) which allows search engines to be managed - all cleared down except google & yahoo 3. Tools - tab mix plus options - New Tabs - Load on new tabs set to Home Page (doesnt let me change it - greyed out url (conduit.com - see 5 below) 4. Tools - tab mix plus options - New Tabs - Load on new tabs set to new tab Page - displays the url below (5) but if I try to edit it reverts back every time 5. If I enter "about:config" & then "browser.newtab.url" in the URL bar I get browser.newtab.url;http://search.conduit.com/?ctid=CT3321897&octid=EB_ORIGINAL_CTID&SearchSource=69&CUI=&SSPV=&Lay=1&UM=5&UP=SP88BDE404-3DB6-49C4-97F5-96A64775CC57 - rightclick on the selection and type 'reset' IT WONT CHANGE please can you help me?
Thanks
Stuart

I see mention of conduit.com in your initial post. That is often a good indication that you will have picked up unwanted software.

Hmm, when right-click > Reset does not work, this can indicate that you have a lock file in your Firefox program folder.
On Windows XP (32-bit), check the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref
If you find a file here with a .js file extension, try renaming it with a .txt file extension.
Note: If Windows hides .js and other common file extensions, you can turn on the display of file extensions (so you can work with files more accurately) using the steps in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/865219.
After the file is renamed with a .txt extension you should be able to view its contents in Notepad by double-clicking it. Do you see anything like the following?
pref("general.config.filename", "somefilename");
If so, that would identify the file that is locking your new tab page. It would be located a couple levels up in the
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
folder.
I should mention that if you plan to delete the lock file, you also should delete the
pref("general.config.filename", "somefilename");
line from the configuration file you renamed. Or if you plan to leave it as a .txt, you don't need to do that since Firefox will ignore it.
when you installed DivX player, probably another program was installed. you should search the unwanted program in install or uninstall programs. You can identify it because it was installed on the same date as DivX player. Delete it and try to change the direction finder again.
If you can not see any program on the same date, you should search programs that have the same date, or similarly, in which you filed the problem. They are generally taskbars or programs of advertising.
WELL DONE GABO!!!
THANK YOU
When DivX was installed it also installed "Search Protect"....& in there are 2 settings..one for Home Page & one for New Tab....both are now set to "Google"
Well done......only took me 3 hours!
