I cannot load Firefox on my XP computer. Going round in circles
I cannot download Mozilla Firefox on to my powerful XP sp3 computer. "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information, open event viewer " I am not capable of carrying out this instruction. 71yrs. Are you able to help please. I'm about to buy a new upgraded computer in several months and several friends reccomend Mozilla Firefox for it. After years of IE I want to trialuse MF. John.
Chosen solution
Solution. lol I went into MS 'event viewer' and came across 3 warnings. The 3 latest times I tried to install FireFox. I opened them and saw:
Access to C:\DOCUME~1\JOHNMI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\7zS5.tmp\setup.exe has been restricted by your Administrator by location with policy rule {9ed6ab7b-4937-4314-b9dc-868bd7bd379f} placed on path C:\Documents and Settings\*\Local Settings\Temp\7z*\*.exe
I went into Regedit and searched for 'Local Settings'. I eventually found the full link: "C:\Documents and Settings\*\Local Settings\Temp\7z*\*.exe" I deleted all the words and exited with fingers crossed.
Went to the Mozilla Firefox folder and clicked on the setup exe. It extracted and (no errors) Firefox burst into life. I now have the FireFox browser up and running.
I hope this can help others or open a path despite being a non tech effort. Thanks for all the help you shared. Appreciated. Take care. John.

Have you tried the methods explained in the Firefox does not work - Common fixes to get you back up and running article.
This message is unusual on a home computer.
Are you downloading to a folder like My Documents or your Desktop where you have full privileges? If not, please try that and see whether it helps. You can download a complete installer from the following page (scroll down to your preferred language): https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
Unfortunately, if that does not help, your computer may be infected by malware. This support article has links for recommended scanning and clean-up tools: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.
Just to clarify my post: when you are downloading from the Mozilla site, choose "Save" instead of "Run" to save the installer file to the My Documents or Desktop folder. After the file is downloaded completely, then double-click it to run it. Hopefully this will bypass the "restriction."
Thanks for your reply Waka_Flocka_Flame . Checked on your link. Unfortunately I cannot load Firefox on computer.. ref reason above.
Modified
thank you jscher2000. 1. Definitely no Malware, etc. problem. It is all down to the error message I get: "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information, open event viewer "
It appears that windows is blocking Firefox loading. I Run or Save, in your locations, and clean formatted partition, etc. but no difference... when it tries to install up pops the above. I've gone into 'event viewer' but the contents mean nothing to me and I leave it safely alone at this stage.
I've deleted then downloaded IE8 again but no help. I was hoping that Mozilla had experienced this IE error situation and had a solution. Tried to solve via Windows but that is a jungle to me. I will try them again.
I will download the complete installer and see what happens. Thanks. later.
