Facebook/Twitter DO NOT LOAD TEXT/IMAGES correctly in Windows 8 in ANY version of Firefox

more options

The title sums it up nicely. I bought a new laptop 2 days ago and Facebook and Twitter do not load correctly in Firefox (ANY AND ALL VERSIONS - I have been installing/uninstalling/reinstalling nonstop like a maniac). They load in every other browser just fine.

Basically what happened is I installed Firefox on the new laptop (first thing I did), loaded Facebook and Twitter for the first time, and once I closed those pages and re-opened them, they started to appear with the text flush to the left and without some images. Almost looks like a part of the CSS code is missing.

I have tried ALL of the solutions posted on these support forums. None of them are permanent

Clearing my cookies/cache IS NOT an adequate solution. It works for the first time and then I have to do it every time I close and re-open FB/Twitter. Since the entire Windows 8 O/S concept is based on the "social experience," this seems somewhat ironic. Either it's a problem with my new laptop but I doubt it, as I said before, every other browser and webpage work fine.

My conclusion is there's a problem between Firefox/Windows 8/Facebook and Twitter. If someone could just confirm or shed some insight to development problems or suggest permanent fixes, that would be greatly appreciated and save me a lot of headache. As it stands, I'm about to throw this laptop out the window. >_> I'm very much not impressed with the hassle this transition has been.

Google Chrome has always been a close second to Firefox in my eyes and it looks like I'll have to switch over, despite the fact the former does not have a customizable bookmark toolbar.

Thanks in advance.

I have NORTON INTERNET SECURITY if anyone can suggest any settings change.

Does it help if you reload those pages via F5 or Ctrl+F5 to bypass the cache?

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Hey there, thanks for the quick reply.

I'd like to add to my problem. With a bit more usage, I've noticed that it is not browser specific nor is it webpage specific. Happened on Google Chrome with other sites, e.g., Youtube, Runescape.

F5 does not work at all, even if I hold/press it for a minute straight. CTRL+F5 does seem to briefly work. But if I'm on Youtube, as an example, CTRL+F5 will get the video to load, but it still won't load the rest of the comments. I'll click "show the comment" and nothing happens. Furthermore, previews of the video do not display on the right sidebar nor do youtubers' avatars.

Problem occurs regardless if Adblock+ is enabled, disabled, installed, or uninstalled completely.

"The RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension (installed with RealPlayer) can cause Firefox to show images correctly upon the first visit to a website, but not on subsequent visits or refreshes. Disabling this extension will fix the problem." I don't seem to have Realplayer installed.

The security software I have is whatever comes standard with a Samsung/Windows 8 laptop. Looks like it's Norton Internet Security. I don't see any other programs here but I'm having problems navigating the new operating system, so who knows. :P I haven't installed anything else on my own.

Currently there are no extensions installed or enabled. 'Load images automatically' and 'enable java' are selected. There are no exceptions. I've tried all the solutions from both URLs, most were standard and had already been done, or they didn't apply, or everything was as it should be.

Still looking for solutions. :( As it stands, CTRL+F5 does work, albeit annoying since it is now happening to every website, regardless of the browser I use, AND it still doesn't seem to FULLY load the page as I outlined above in the Youtube example.

Thanks again for any and all help.

Lawleypop, I'm having the same problem. I'm running Windows 8, brand-new computer(3 days old)... Facebook and Youtube both load some pictures and some picture thumbnails. After a quick refresh, everything comes back. This has happened to me in Firefox and in IE(as a test).

Hey Firefaux,

I changed a setting in Firefox and it seemed to have solved my problems. Since CTRL+F5 seemed to work as a quick fix, that told me it was something to do with the cache.

My browsers on my old laptop had never had their cached cleared (I have a problem deleting things :P).

Go to Tools --> Options --> Network and under Cached Web Content, your cache may be set to 350mb just like mine was in my new Firefox. I had a moment of clarity and thought, "maybe since my computer is so new, I haven't browsed enough to fill my cache with information from various different sites, as opposed to just Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube."

So I ticked the box "override automatic cache management" and set it to 0mb.

Ever since then, I've had no problems with browsing (in Firefox, haven't attempted anything else since the problem was fixed immediately).

I know nothing about caches and whatnot, but with the limit set to 0, I believe this is forcing the browser to reload a new page from scratch EVERY time since I have not allowed *anything* to be saved to memory.

Hope this helps, please let us know if it works for you as well. I know I was experiencing massive buyer's remorse for days because of this problem.

Hi Lawleypop. Thanks for offering some help. I've tried your solution, but to no avail. reddit.com loads only text on the left side of the screen...after a refresh, it loads fine. Youtube will load thumbnails and pictures. Facebook will be missing some timeline pcitures. Even when I went into Windows personalization and selected 'get more themes online' I still get a text and garbled mess of a website. After a refresh, it loads fine.

My new laptop is Win 8. This one has the problem. My other, older laptop runs Win 7 with none of these issues, boh concurrently running on the same home network. This HAS to be a Win8 problem or my newer, faster, stronger laptop is having trouble with my older Belkin router.

I found a few threads on reddit that describe the same problems

I'm sorry that my solution didn't work for you. I have not had the problem since, except with one site (JustHost) but I determined the problem was with the site since it happened across multiple computers.

But yes, I think I agree that the problem is with Microsoft Windows itself. I had wondered if the problem occurred in Internet Explorer as an under-handed way at getting people to switch browsers. Didn't bother to test it though, since NOTHING can make me switch to that god-awful browser.

The router MAY be the issue, but I want to point out that I think I had a different model from yours. Mine was rented from Bell so I don't remember the brand name, but I don't think it was Belkin. When the problem first appeared for me, it was also only my new Windows 8 Samsung computer that was affected and my old Win 7 Acer worked fine.

I'd continue searching for an answer on reddit, there is a large number of knowledgeable users on that site. Post this link as well, as a reference to what you've done already. Perhaps people will have other theories about the cache.

Best of luck man. :(

Lawleypop...I believe I have discovered the problem...it's the wireless router. I just plugged the internet directly into the new laptop...no problems with those websites at all. Facebook, youtube, reddit...all loaded fine-instantly-no refresh needed. I'm guessing that this old Belkin router has trouble with those new webpages for some reason. You may want to try this for yourself. Now, what is a "modern" wireless router that is compatible with my new Motorola 6121 Docsis 3.0 modem? I'm not going to skimp this time...

Hi firefaux i fixed the problem. if your laptop is samsung, uninstall samsung support center. All the problems will go with it. This is the link about this issue: http://erin-orourke.com/2013/02/02/cache-corruption-issue-samsung-support-center/

This problem is 99.99% due to incorrect system date and year.

CHECK YOUR SYSTEM DATE AND ADJUST IT TO THE CURRENT TIME AND DATE.

TIME, DATE AND YEAR MUST BE CORRECT.

THIS SOLVES THE PROBLEM.

IF NOT RESTART THE SYSTEM AND THE PROBLEM SOLVES.

IF THE NEW DATE SETTINGS ARE NOT SAVED, THEN YOU NEED TO REPLACE CMOS BATTERY ON YOUR MOTHER BOARD. THIS MAY REQUIRE A TECHNICIAN.

IF NOT

UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL FIREFOX.
