How can I get the thread count to show up in the sidebar NOT the email count.
I am very, very NOT interested in the number of emails I have unread or saved in a folder but rather the number of threads. How can I achieve this?

If I select all messages in a folder (Ctrl+A), at the top of the Message Pane it displays NN Conversations. Is that the same as the number of threads?
I have Thunderbird Conversations installed so maybe that's why I don't see what you are seeing, BUT that's not what I mean (I don't think). I'm talking about the sidebar with the inbox and my various folders I've created. Next to each folder I can show number, number unread, and size (disk space) for each folder. BUT, those numbers are the total number of emails and I want to see the total number of threads. That way, at a glance, I can see how many conversations are in each folder including one's that have unread emails in them.
Modified
The method I suggested is built into TB, and I don't use the Conversations add-on. There is a topic that discusses this on mozillazine (currently not available). View the cached page.
Well that looks like it does indeed discuss my issue (but doesn't seem to have a satisfactory resolution). I'll see if I can pull something together from that. Or more likely I will just live with it. :)
I have created an enhancement request in bugzilla to see if anyone considers this something that could be developed.
This is the link: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1650555

hi, me too am interested in the matter "unread messages count"but in the ...opposite direction. i have thunderbird 78.4 i would like to not having the count of unread messages beside the folders names in the folder pane. the count appears even if if have disabled it from the small 'options box' above the pane. any help on how to cancel this count? or could it be a remain of some extension which i deleted because it was no more working after Th 78? thank you for your help maurizio
