delete an email account

more options

I would like to delete an email account that I do not use. This is what I have tried: 1) gone to "Main Menu" then Tools > account settings > account actions and no delete button. 2) when tried to delete by other means I get "an account with this name already exists Please enter different account name" 3) going to "account settings" > "manage identities" a popup opens and the "delete" is in gray and not usable. I am using Windows 7 (do not like 10), Thunderbird 60.6.1 on a standard desk top PC. What do I do that will work? Or, do I delete this Thunderbird and loose all my saved emails and make a new Thunderbird?

Chosen solution

Hello there again. Graypants.

Select the unwanted account in the left-hand Folder Pane. Right-click it, select "Settings". The Account Settings pane will appear, with the chosen account highlighted. At the bottom of the pane is a button labelled Account Actions, which when clicked will reveal an option to Remove Account. You can select and remove as many accounts as you wish, but note that you won't be permitted to remove the default account. You must first designate another account as the default.

Thank you very much. I guess I was looking on the right side for account actions button. In my poor old mind I never saw that button at the bottom of the left pane. Problem fixed. I am changing my ISP and want both email accounts going for some time - how do I designate an account as the default one?

With version 68.0 "Select the unwanted account in the left-hand Folder Pane. Right-click it, select "Settings". The Account Settings pane will appear, with the chosen account highlighted. At the bottom of the pane is a button labelled Account Actions, which when clicked will reveal an option to Remove Account."

None of this happen here(68.0). There is NO Settings tab or button. Nothing to select to remove anything or the removal of the selected account, that works.

The Delete tab fails every time tried. It states: 'current command wasn't completed as it was reported as 'target folder already exists'. Whatever that is suppose to mean?

Please help with current version support or me understanding anything here.

Thanks, Stephen
