My trash mailbox deletes automatically after 5 days. I've changed the settings and attempted the fixes I've found. Nothing is working. Help!!!!
I do not want my e-mail to automatically delete, regardless of the folder it is in. At this point it automatically deletes from the trash folder after 5 days. I do not want that. I have attempted many things already, to include changing the various settings. Nothing has helped. Any ideas?

re : I am not sure what is meant by the server, If your email address is one offered by 'Charter' then all emails are on the 'Charter' server. You can get access to those emails by logging on to your webmail account using a brower OR you can use a program called an email client to get access to the server to see emails.
Pop mail accounts can only access the server Inbox to download emails. These emails are stored on your computer and may not be the same as those stored on server.
Imap mail accounts synchronise folders with server folders and show a virtual copy of whatever is held on server. All emails are stored on the server. Emails may or maynot be fully downloaded. Even if fully downloaded, as folders are repeatedly synchronising with server folders, those imap folders cannot be regarded as a backup copy. The full downloaded copy merely facilitates viewing when offline and offers the opportunity to backup profile including emails to an external drive.
re :My son told me to set up a new folder and put all messages that I might want to refer back to into that new folder. Good advise. Keep the Inbox low in numbers. Use Folders to organise and store emails. Delete what you do not want to keep.

As I mentioned in my first comment Some servers auto empty trash on a periodic basic this is true in your case. It is not Thunderbird emptying the Trash, it is the server automatically emptying the 'Trash' folder and I quote:Trash: Holds deleted email and automatically deletes permanently after three days.
Any email put into the Trash is considered rubbish; something you definately do not want to keep. The idea of the 'Trash' folder means if you deleted something in error, you can retrieve it. As this is an imap account, the Trash in Thunderbird synchronises with Trash on server to show what is held on server.

Is this an imap or pop mail account?
If imap then check to see if you have settings in webmail account that are controlling the deletion.
What server are you using ? Some servers auto empty trash on a periodic basic eg: gmail. But five days does seem a bit quick.
This is an imap account. I am not sure what is meant by the server, since I am not computer savvy. We obtain internet access through Charter. I have gone through numerous settings and they are all checked to not delete. As an update, now all of a sudden it is only keeping the current day and the two prior days, so after three days it is gone. My son told me to set up a new folder and put all messages that I might want to refer back to into that new folder.
