Sender receiving read receipt when I have remote contact blocked

more options

An organisation revealed to me when and how often I had opened an email that they sent. I never allow remote content and this email was no exception. The sender revealed that they use mail chimp. Allowing this is an option for remote content but I have not allowed it. How can I prevent read receipts?

Chosen solution

Recommend you do not select this option as default. 'View' > 'Display attachments Inline'

Use it only when required for emails you are sure about eg: family member sends a holiday photo and switch off after use.

Click tracking allows you to see if contacts have clicked links in your campaign. Your campaign report will show which contacts clicked your links, and how many times each link was clicked.

Mailchimp, we embed a tiny invisible graphic in the bottom of your HTML email. This open tracker graphic, or web beacon, is unique to each campaign you send. When someone opens your email with images turned on, that graphic is downloaded from our server, and it's recorded as an open on your campaign report.

If you have remote content not enabled and do not have 'Display Attachments Inline' enabled and do not click on any links then nothing should be picked up. Note: If remote content is not enabled but if you have clicked on a link in that email then they will detect your activity.

To check what remote content has been enabled: Menu icon > Options > Privacy Do not select checkbox :'Allow remote content in messages' click on 'Exceptions' This will show any exception you have allowed in the past. If you make any changes/removals, clickon 'Save Changes' click on 'OK'.

Another option would be to swap over to using 'Plain Text' instead of html to view emails.

Thanks. Remote content not allowed. No exeptions made. Can't see Display Attachments Inline options.... Still hunting thunderbird menus. Maybe that's it.
