My Thunderbird email client is configured using GMail with IMAP. Windows 7, 64-bit OS Mozilla Thunderbird 60.2.1 32-bit

After successfully archiving email messages from my "Inbox", I attempted to perform the "Undo Move Message" command. All the messages in my Archived Folder vanished and failed to reappear in my "Inbox". "Redo Move Message" had no impact. How do I recover these (all-important) email messages? I was able to reproduce this problem on another machine... using fictitious emails, of course.

A recent copy of my "Profiles" folder was saved several months prior to this incident. Another copy was saved immediately discovering this issue.

A quick search on Bugzilla revealed this defect was reported more than a decade ago. Apparently it is a low priority bug that has yet to be squashed.

re :All the messages in my Archived Folder vanished

Gmail imap: When you 'archive' emails they are usually put in the 'All mail' folder by gmail. Basically, gmail just removes the labels.

Subscribing to see 'All Mail' is one method, but as it contains everything - all incoming, outgoing, archived, not correctly deleted emails, this folder could be huge.

Much better in this instance to logon to gmail webmail account via a browser and check the 'All Mail' folder. You can move them back to eg: inbox and then store in a suitably named folder for organising/storage.

then when Thunderbird synchronises with Inbox, they should reappear.

It is worth checking this out.

'All Mail', Huge? More like gargantuan. Who would have thought?

Yes, labels were removed so I will be busy for the near future.

Thanks for making my day.
