I am running Thuderbird 52.9.1 on Mac OS 10.11.6, but ALL add-ons are being blocked, even though they say they support up to Thunderbird 60.0.

Every single add-on has a red circle with a diagonal line through it. If I download the add-on anyway, it won't install. Not sure if this has anything to do with the fact that I'm running Firefox 61.0.1. Most of the add-ons say that they are compatible with up to Thuderbird 60.0. This also seem strange to me, as I'm supposedly running the latest version of Thunderbird, which is 52.9.1.

It appears you are seeing what happens when you try to install a TB add-on from a browser page and it attempts to install it in Firefox.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/installing-addon-thunderbird

Drag the green Download Now button from the webpage and drop it onto Tools/Add-ons/Extensions in TB.

there is no "download now" button - only a "add to thunderbird" button

this is pathetic - I'll wait til the end of the day then I'm moving on

call Fonzie - mozilla jumped the shark

The Download button is on the webpage as shown in Firefox, not the 'browser' built into TB. See attached picture for an example. If drag-and-drop doesn't work on a Mac, download the xpi file from the webpage with Firefox, then click the icon beside the search box in Tools/Add-ons/Extensions in TB and 'Install add-on from file'.
