PLEASE PLEASE help with this problem. I am tearing my hair out. Emails keep being deleted from my inbox. I am using IMAP but I'm not deleting the emails from the server AND i have set the settings to "never delete emails" under "retention policy".

I have switched to Thunderbird from Windows Live Mail (thinking mozilla would be more progressive) but am beginning to regret it.

All I want to do, is to keep all my emails under thunderbird, without compacting all the time so I can come back to them at any time. I was able to do this in WLM so what's the story in Thunderbird?

Can I configure Thunderbird so I can simply keep all the downloaded emails in my inbox? Or not?

Thanks for your help.

Dave

WIN10, Thunderbird 60.0b7, Emails transferred from WLM as .eml files (which also takes forever to do which is why this is so frustrating).

PS. I have tried rebuilding the folder (.msf) which has no effect

I am not saying this is part of the problem, nor part of the answer, but I see you're using TB 60.b7 which is a beta pre-release. Any reason for choosing this particular version?

You have just the one computer working this account? No phones or tablets connected to it?

All of my 8 or so email accounts are set up to use IMAP and all so far have been able to keep messages on the server. So what you are asking for is normal Thunderbird operation in my experience, so I am at a bit of a loss as to what is happening in your account.

Hi Zenos,

Thanks for your reply. Re: the version, this happened to be the one available when I first d/l it. I hadn't purposefully looked for the beta.

Is it possible to revert to the last working version?

Only my laptop is running this program. I don't use any other mail client as I prefer to have everything on my laptop which i then regularly backup.

Cheers

Dave

You might prefer to use POP.

Switching to POP means that all your messages would be downloaded to Thunderbird, and not left where your email provider has a say in their destiny.

Changing over to POP would tell us whether or not Thunderbird has a part in the disappearance of your messages.

If you want to use POP, simply set up the account again but override the default selection of IMAP and insert the appropriate settings for POP.

When you have the account set up with both IMAP and POP, you can move or copy any messages that you want to keep by copying them from the current IMAP-connected account to the new POP-connected account. Then you can remove the IMAP-connected account.

Thanks for your help, but I've ditched Thunderbird.

I've just d/l eM and it imported all my emails seemlessly, not addons to download, intuitive.

Sorry - I really tried to make thunderbird work.

It's clunky, slow, awkward and not for me.

I appreciate you trying to help me.

I tried emClient. I even paid for the full version, but asked for my money back. It was clunky, slow and awkward. I wish you luck with it.
