I downloaded quantum about 4 hours ago. Tried to read a .pdf online and it was really, really slow. Looked at another page and it froze. Could not click on anything with the mouse. Waited 2 hours hoping magic would happen and the issue would resolve. Finally powered my laptop off using the power button because, hey, can't click on anything. Turned everything back on, tried again, froze again, had to push that power button again. NOW MY LAPTOP WON'T TURN BACK ON OTHER THAN TO A BLANK SCREEN!!!!!

How do I get to some screen somewhere that will let me return to the previous version without losing my save passwords and bookmarks? If that isn't possible, how do I get to a screen that will let me uninstall Firefox so I use some other browser that won't screw up my machine and cause me to waste days taking it to a tech to fix and all the freaking data I have spent hours and hours putting together?

And yes, I have the important stuff backed up on Mozy, but that doesn't make this any less infuriating!

Do you recall what version you had before? Install an older version of Firefox

Is it a Windows laptop? Firefox should not start up automatically, so I think job 1 is to get Windows booting normally, and then after that, you can consider options. For example:

Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Start up in the Profile Manager from the system search box or Run dialog (Windows key + R). Type or paste the following and press Enter to submit it:

firefox.exe -P

Don't delete anything here!

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like April2018, and skip the option to relocate the profile folder. After creating the profile, select it and start Firefox in that profile.

Hopefully Firefox will run.

To migrate data, see these articles on files you may want to copy from the old profile to the new one. A few at a time would be best to avoid transferring corrupted files.

Thank you. It's Windows 10. The problem may have been that the screen wasn't starting normally. Maybe. I went to look for a monitor and a cable and when I came back in it was on. Now I just need to figure out how to roll Firefox back to the previous version. I'm not about to open this version to do anything.

I downloaded it just a few months ago, maybe October? So it can't be too old. I could swear i stumbled across something on the laptop that said something about using a previous version. I look in the morning. I'm all raged out tonight.

Thank you for the link! If nothing else, I'll use that. After I back more files up to my external hard drive.
