Are you certain the server name is 'gmail.co.za' because that does not sound like a server setting name ? re: The 'gmail.co.za' website - for anyone else who does not know the difference, this is not google gmail.

What server settings did they give you? Are you using your email address as username? Is it for pop or imap?

You will need to go through manual configuration.

I couldn't find their information so you'll need to contact them and ask about server settings (IMAP/POP, SMTP ports, authentication method + information, etc.).

Thank you - I did get the settings, but it still doesnt want to authenticate the new settings. It seems Thunderbird does not recognize GMAIL.CO.ZA as a server?

The POP3 mail settings for setting up your mail client to download mail straight to your PC are:

(Please note if your mail domain is mailbox or starmail etc. the mail server name is mail.mailbox.co.za or mail.starmail.co.za)

  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): Your ISP (NOT gmail.co.za!) - (This is the name of the server with which you connect to the web eg Netactive, Mweb or iAfrica etc. If you do not know either the name or IP address, contact them and ask them to give you this info)
  • Your account name: username@webmail.co.za

'* Password' the same as the one that you use with Webmail to log into your account.

Hi Everyone, Thank you for all of the input. Some info was helpful. Alot of time spent on trial and error, but I finally got it to work. Please note that I am not an IT fundi but I did have a vague idea of what you guys were talking about, so I persevered. It did however tell me that my connection to my service provider for outgoing mail (SMTP) is ïrregular.
