When I open a new tab the following appears in the address bar: http://search.searchleasier.com/?uid=44409456-8cde-4aab-bee3-0dfa372f81eb&uc=20170929&ap=appfocus5&source=googledisplay&page=newtab&implementation_id=email_4.0.17

I would like to use the default mozilla settings so how can I get rid of this. I did remove this from extensions and I do get the correct opening page when starting mozilla. This problem occurs each time I open a new tab.

Hi  !

That search.searchleasier.com is a browser hijacker, that you will of course want to get rid of.

Go to the 3-bar menu (or   'Tools') => Addons => Extensions and look for any unfamiliar or suspicious looking extensions, like e.g. :

SafeSearch Incognito SearchAssist Incognito Search for Fire Fox 1.6 SafeSearch ch SafeSearch net Converter.onesearch org File Convertor and Search Addon Findwide Search Engine 1.7

When you find any : remove them.

However :   most malware will be 'hiding' somewhere , so let's run malware scans :

Further information can be found in this article :

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners.
They all work differently   -   what one program doesn't pick up, the other might.

Separate Security Issue: Update your Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

This is likely caused by the Email 4.0.17 (@Email) extension since this shows at the end of the link you posted.

Thanks for the help on this. I used the Refresh Firefox tool and that took care of it.
