I was reading a Newsarama.com article on my phone and when it asked if I wanted to subscribe I pressed yes by mistake and now I'm getting notifications that I don't want.

I am using Firefox Beta on a Galaxy S7.

Could you try this: while you're on that site, tap the padlock or globe in the address bar. Firefox should display a panel with security information. If there are customized permissions for the site, you should have a link to "Edit Site Settings".

If you tap that, a panel should display showing permissions granted. Tap the checkbox to select Notifications and then tap Clear to remove it.

I believe that might have worked. I went into the site's settings on my phone and it displayed the notifications which I cleared and hopefully that'll do it.
