Good morning. I have been having some issues with Firefox lately and I re-downloaded it. However, I was able to choose how many processes I wanted to use before when using hardware acceleration. It will not allow me to change it past one now. I have a quad core processor. I referenced an article and it showed me this screen shot I included:

However, it does not have the check box at the top to enable multiprocess Firefox. I am using Firefox 64-bit 56.0. It is current and up to date. Everything had been working fine lately but my issues started with Firefox printing blank paper when I wanted to print a page. By re-downloading I seem to have fixed that but the multiprocess is inaccessible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Chosen solution

You can enable Multiprocess in the 'about:config' page :

Type in the address bar about:config (press Enter)

Type and look for the following two preferences :

browser.tabs.remote.autostartbrowser.tabs.remote.autostart.2

And set both values to true

Thank you for responding. That did the trick. Now I haven't had any answers to the thread about my printer printing blank pages so if you have any further help you could offer:

Thanks again.

You can leave browser.tabs.remote.autostart set to its default value false. It is sufficient to toggle the opt-in pref browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 to true.

You can look at "Multiprocess Windows" to see the current multi-process state.

Thank you for your help. Now I am trying to deal with the printing issues. I can print in Safe Mode correctly but not in regular mode. I opened firefox and disabled all extensions and add ons manually but that didn't fix it. Restarting in Safe Mode, though, did. Very odd indeed.

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options/Preferences > General > Performance)
  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no lightweight theme)
  • default toolbar layout is used
  • xulstore.json is ignored
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder in profile folder)
  • JavaScript JIT compilers are disabled
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Options/Preferences -> General: Performance
remove checkmark: [ ] "Use recommended performance settings"
remove checkmark: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

Thank you! Now we are getting somewhere.

My graphics drivers are currently up to date. I did as you requested and here are the results:

If I choose 'use hardware acceleration when available' I get a popup that there was an error in printing and nothing happens.

If I choose use 'recommended settings' and print no popup appears but I print a blank page.

HOWEVER, when I uncheck both boxes it prints. I believe I always had one or the other checked up until now and printing was never an issue. Could it have been the most recent Firefox update or something else?

I know my resources for acceleration are fine as far as hardware goes but I do not understand why I am having this problem. I never did before now.

'Wish you would have continued this in your original post, as this is a completely different topic :

Others, with the same printing problem, won't look at this thread ......

Sorry, I wasn't sure what else to do. My original post about printing problems has had no replies and I needed help. I searched the web in earnest to find any solution and could find nothing on my own. Since I was able to get a solution to one problem on here I figured it might be worth it to see if the other one could be solved also.

I totally understand  ! For future reference : when you post a question and it takes a bit too long till you get a reply : get back to that question and post something like : " Anybody  ??? "

Maybe cor-el (being a moderator) would be willing to copy and paste those two posts in the original thread ....... (?) Might be helpful to others with the same problem.

Corel, if you think that would help please go ahead and do what Enigma suggested. In the meantime anyone have any answers to the post I made at 5:02AM with the results of my changing the graphics settings.

Quote figureguy:

Good evening.
I am having a heck of a time with my Firefox browser not printing.
Printing is normal when using Edge so it is something specific to Firefox.
If I print while using Firefox normally I get a popup that an error occurred during printing and a blank page pops out of the printer.
However, if I print while in Safe Mode it works fine.
I don't know exactly what is happening but I am clueless.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
