When I click to open the trash folder, messages appear & then are gone,..deleted! I'm losing a lot of important e-mails!!
I've reviewed all the server settings & can't find why when I open the Trash folder, that the messages there flash for a second & then disappear! They're DELETED! I'm losing these important e-mails & can't find out why?

First question is why important messages are it the Trash?
Is this IMAP? Did you empty the Trash folder on the server?

IMAP yes. Just because I move something from inbox to trash doesn't mean I want to delete it from future reference. I'm just cleaning up the inbox. I see no server settings that will stop this auto delete when I open a trash folder. Do you know how to remedy that? Or do you just want to question me?
Go ahead and get snooty. Questions lead to solutions. Solve it yourself... FYI: Most IMAP providers empty the trash for you on a regular basis.

Fu You deserve to lose mail by thinking the Trash is a storage folder. Idiot.
My messages in my Trash folder just lost their content. How can I get the content back?
This problem happened several months ago, too. Why is it happening?
I have deleted thousands of messages and several large folders in the past several weeks, and that hasn't helped--the problem still occurs.
