Hi Mozilla.

I live in Ireland and I have Firefox on my laptop. Everything works perfectly fine on it. I am currently visiting a friend in America, on the east coast, and I have brought my laptop along with me. Where everything works find in Ireland, it's a different case here in America.

This morning, on turning on my laptop, Firefox started throwing error after error at me in relations to sites such as Google and YouTube. It kept refusing to load the sites, saying my "connection is not secure". Open Internet Explorer and all works fine. But in Firefox it's a nightmare!!

I thought at first my copy of Firefox got corrupt and so I uninstalled and reinstalled it. That didn't fix the problem.

I then got worried and thought a virus was on my computer even though I run a very tight system. I spend valuable time running virus scans but nothing was found, which is what I expected. So what was the deal with the problem...???

After Googling the issue I found what I believe is the answer. It seems that Firefox won't load sites based on a secure HTTPS connection if the time and date of the computer are wrong. Guess what... My laptop time is on Ireland time. I went into system setting and saw setting for changing the time and date and also the physical location of the computer itself (which was set to Ireland) but really and truly I shouldn't have to go tampering with system configuration settings to get Firefox to load Google or YouTube!!! I couldn't even download any extensions onto my Firefox setup because I wasn't allowed to connect to the Mozilla servers!! Bah!!!

In the end, I went to my friends computer, loaded Firefox onto it and completed my task in under two minutes, after spending about two hours on it!!!!

You really need to sort this out!! This is a very stupid setup to have, rendering your Firefox browser inoperable once the computer it is on moves to another country. I guarantee you that once I get back to Ireland everything will work like a dream, but I do travel with my laptop and I need a browser that will work wherever I am, and not just in my home country. It's a very silly feature indeed!!

Paul.

Hi Paul, I think it usually works fine to keep your computer on home time and use Firefox while you are traveling. One possible wrinkle: in the U.S. we are turning back our clocks one week later than you did in Ireland. The Daylight Savings Time discrepancy might be throwing a wrench into the works. Not sure how to test that idea...

'Was just thinking: Having to reset the time on your laptop when you're moving from one time zone to another is actually quite normal: When you take a travelling alarm(clock) with you;   you'll have to reset the time.   If you don't, you can get yourself in a lot of trouble , like being late for important meetings   ......
