Can someone please tell me how to reinstate my old toolbar so that all my tiles have my own desription next to them please?

Hello Everyone!

A few months ago I changed my toolbar so I could get more tiles on it and found a way of removing my own decriptions on Mozilla somewhere? I have now decided that I would rather have my tiles with my own descriptions again but cannot find how to change it back. Can someone please tell me how to do this?

Thank you Stephanie

Chosen solution

Hi Stephanie, do you mean on Firefox's Bookmarks Toolbar, or one of the other toolbars? Either way, I suppose, changing the display isn't a built-in feature. It would have involved either:

  • An extension, or
  • Creating a custom style rule in the userChrome.css file

Since an extension is more common, you could check what you've got on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Does anything look relevant?

Hi You have fixed it - thank you so much!

Just one more question - is it possible to increase the size of the bookmark toolbar to have a double row? If not then that is cool - I would rather have my toolbar fixed and single than a jumble of tiles!!

Best Regards Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, there's no built-in way to expand the Bookmarks Toolbar to two rows. You can create a folder and move less used but still highly relevant bookmarks into one that remains visible and doesn't require using the overflow drop-down. Otherwise, you would need an add-on (possibly a different one, or possibly the same one with some adjustments to its options).
