That is not a Microsoft site, but an unofficial, for-pay vendor site.

Could you describe where the problem is in more detail:

(1) The old hotmail.com is now hosted on live.com so if your Firefox is not redirecting you to a server on live.com, there may be a problem handling redirects.

(2) Can you open this login page? https://login.live.com/login.srf

(3) Is there any problem logging in?

(4) Is there a problem after logging in when the site redirects to a more localized server hosting your mailbox? If so, what is the nature of the problem?

More generally, when you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or globe icon in the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Umm, no, I don't think it's safe to use third party websites to log in to your email.

As shown in the attached screen shot, when you try to go to www.hotmail.com Microsoft sends Firefox a permanent redirect to mail.live.com and if Firefox does not send mail.live.com a session cookie indicating you are logged in then it redirects Firefox to login.live.com.

Could you make sure you did not turn on an accessibility feature which blocks some redirects? You can check that here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General mini-tab

If it has a checkmark, untick the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page"

Then try www.hotmail.com again to see whether you get the expected redirect.
