Have just updated from FF37 to FF38. The default tabs - File, Help, etc., no longer open properly. Advice, please ?

When I click on the "Help" tab, all I get is a partial outline of the drop-down menu - typically the bottom end, and one side. Once I got some text, but no outline of the menu. With that one exception, attempting to use the DDMs provide no text - clicking on the area where "Options" appears achieves nothing, & clicking the "Edit" tab to copy stuff does not do anything either.

I have dozens of tabs open in FF, and they work perfectly well - the problem is only with File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools & Help.

Previous builds of FF have occasionally been slow to let the DDMs show up, but this is the first time none of them have worked at all.

Could you try disabling Firefox's use of hardware acceleration:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again. Any difference?

No success. Every few minutes, I can get a single complete drop-down menu with text, but that is it.

Changing the details in Windows Personalisation might help - I'll report back. Thanks anyway :)

Complete success - thanks again. (I misread your instructions the first time round - that "3-bar" thing takes getting used to )
