Every time I open firefox (36.0.1) it crashes at start up. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. I've tried safemode and refreshing firefox. I've tried system restore. None of the above is working for me.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

You can find more information and troubleshooting steps in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

This is all that I see.

However, I downgraded back to firefox 35.0.1 and it is working fine now. Any solution to the above problem is still appreciated.

ok, thanks - this crash seems to be related to the networking code of the browser (though the exact reasons are not clear to me). please check in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > network > connection - settings... if firefox is set up to directly connect to the internet ('no proxy').

some other routes to explore: do you use any software that might be interfering with connections on your computer (like an anonymizer, traffic monitor or something of that sorts)? and finally, maybe also run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

When I check on 35.0.1 it's 'use system proxy settings' ... on 36.0.1 I wouldn't be able to check because it wouldn't be open long enough.

I don't have any additional software of those sorts.

I tried using cc cleaner when firefox was malfunctioning...

Downgrading back to a previous version was my best option. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
